Rix & Kay, a full-service law firm based in West Kent and East Sussex, has become the launch client for Kai and the LegalAI platform. Facing rising operational costs, the firm sought innovative ways to reduce expenses and boost revenue.
After consulting with their staff, Rix & Kay discovered that fee earners were spending 25% to 30% of their time on essential but non-chargeable administrative tasks. Onboarding and initial risk assessment were identified as major contributors to this inefficiency.

In collaboration, Rix & Kay and LegalAI documented the firm’s processes for managing incoming enquiries, onboarding new files, and performing initial risk assessments. These processes have been integrated into the LegalAI platform, enabling Kai to intelligently automate the entire enquiry-to-onboarding process. Fee earners will now only be involved when a key decision is needed, or an issue arises.
Richard Cripps has described this change as transformational. It allows fee earners to focus on delivering quality legal services, ensures compliance by following correct procedures, and reduces the likelihood of human error. Additionally, Kai’s management of incoming inquiries means prospective clients are handled more promptly, leads are qualified more quickly and accurately, and more inquiries are converted into cases, ultimately increasing the firm’s revenue.
